#Performance probe forum plusI highly prefer the construction of the 7.10.7 frame over the 5.5.5, so a plus there, too. I did have some issues with PC-DMIS's support of the X1c's probe change rack (as of versions 20) and I can't really say if that ever got resolved in the general PC-DMIS releases, but Josh can probably find out about that. While I've had a few strange issues here and there with the X1s and X1h probes on our bigger Advantage 7.10.7's, the X1c probes have been incredibly durable and reliable for our use in a production shop environment. I have nine Global Advantage 5.5.5's carrying LSP-X1c/HS-P-X1c probes. #Performance probe forum seriesThe larger fixed head probes such as the X3 and X5 series are designed to handle those forces, I'm building some X3 clusters for a project with styli sticking out 350mm horizontally - and not worrying a bit. How the H handles it when it's at A 90 I'm not sure, but I haven't had any problems as long as we stay under the weight limit. If you were to put a 5-way on the bottom of a 0SH (short) puck and try to put 33 grams of long stylus out sideways, the mass of the stylus on that long of a lever would be putting too much bending forces on the internal moving sensor parts even at rest. There's weight limits - the C & H can each only carry 33 grams including the puck - and where the weight is located spatially is quite important. With the horizontal mount stylus you could have a significant axial component in the direction away from the probe body, something that can never happen on a vertical stylus. This is spot on. With a vertical probe, even at A90, the majority of the force component will be perpendicular to the probe body and any axial component will be pretty well centered on the probe body and will always be towards the probe body. It must be something to do with the way the force is applied axially with a horizontal mounted probe. But the X1C is a fixed head and it is quoted in the same way.
